The vast majority of armies you saw at the GT were from Florida. The bulk of the state's regional areas are comprised from the Jacksonville area, Tampa/Gulf coast, central Florida and southern Florida. Southern Florida can be broken down into the Naples area and around Miami. Based upon my own personal experience central Florida has the largest percentage of competitive players. I have played on sparingly in southern Florida so it's hard for to rank that area compared to the others. Daemon armies are popular in central Florida as well as Space Marines. From what I have seen there are not that many eldar players anymore like there used to be and I attribute that mainly due to the release of 5th edition. There are never a lot of Sisters players anywhere that I know of and that also includes Daemon Hunters even moreso. IG is slowly on the rise but still is unproven. Space Marines has always been one of the most popular armies and I think that since so many people play them that dilutes the number of good players fielding this race. Except for Vulkan Marines with lots of thunder termies I haven't heard of this army having much success. The codex has been out for awhile now.

I played at the Big Waaagh two weekends and surpisingly enough Space Marines fared much better there overall which I attribute to localized metagame.

I think that's the smartest thing you've said here.  

The meta-game really doesn't exist on a national scale any more, with the removal of the main GT circuit (I don't think so, anyway). Now it's basically just whatever the metagame is at your particular store/area/tournament. An army which steamrolls everything at the Necro might get whomped on at Adepticon, which in turn loses out to another at the Big WAAAGH!!! because those armies weren't represented in each tournament.

Down here in FL, it's nothing but rock-hard lists, just about. I go home to Michigan, all I hear is crying about Nob Bikers. Nobody's even HEARD of Fatecrusher or Nidzilla up there (on a side note, I don't have any problems with Nidzilla, given I've been able to crush it before). And I'm sure once I get out of college (like THAT'LL ever happen :P) and move to wherever it is I'll be going, I'm sure the meta-game there will be totally different as well. Maybe there'll be a couple good Tau players who make everyone else cry.

I thought mech eldar was crap until I played against them. Maybe the people I have played running the dark kin are not that good but I have learned that theory hammer in my head means nothing... All that matters is what people can make happen on the table.

I've gotten a pair of 5E overall wins with the DE... I simply don't think they have what it takes in the random game length.  too squishy in the KP department.

I agree the firepower is no joke, but against vehicles, it's meh.  and peoples got vehicles these days... period.

I was laughing about mech eldar. Then I saw how well they matchup against my BA at the Big Waaagh. You have to play very aggresively against mechdar with an assault army. To me from what I have seen dark eldar lances struggle against the new AP table.
